This tour aims to recognize the gallantry of World War II soldiers who played a very important role in the history of the Philippines. The Tour also aims to provide big picture of World War II in the lives our very own Filipino soldiers.
Philippine Veterans Museum
To begin the tour we will go first to Philippine Veterans Museum which is a must- see attraction in Taguig City as it is the only museum in the Philippines that exhibits World War II event where the daily life or great life stories of Filipino soldiers during that time are being unveiled and illustrated through tableaus in a very organize, thematic, and entertaining manner.
The Veterans Museum was envisioned by Col. Emmanuel V. Ocampo and was built to remember, recognize and share to everyone (especially the Filipino youth) the remarkably heroic deeds of the great Filipino soldiers (now called veterans) who risked and sacrificed their lives for the protection and liberation of the Philippines against the Japanese forces during World War II.
Murals, life-sized dioramas that were carved by native artisans, war weapons, artifacts, war-time newspapers, pictures, and soldiers’ personal life stories during World War II that can’t be found in any history books are some of the things that can be seen, appreciated and enjoyed in this world class museum.
Nielsen's Tower
Our next stop is the Nielsen Tower which was once the passenger station and control tower of Nielsen Airport. The said airport was once the Philippines first international and commercial airport from 1937-1947 which name was taken from businessman and an aviation fan Laurie Reuben Nielsen the one who built the airport.
Nielsen Tower, located along Ayala Avenue (once the airport runway), is a two story building designed to look like an aircraft on aerial view.
Today, the said tower is the home of the Filipinas Heritage Library which is an electronic research center of the Philippines.
